President’s Message – October 2015

It is that time of year to contemplate another Panhandle Nordic Club season. Snow is usually a feature of winter, but as we know with last year, good snow conditions lasted about a month. If the current weather predictions are accurate, you may want to plan a sunny, warm winter break or head for the high country.

The yearly activities are being planned including Best Hand Fun Ski/Idaho Free Ski Day, Rock Soup and hopefully a Loppett. Free ski lessons and a couple of overnight trips will be in the offing.

We will continue to meet at Avondale Golf Course Club House on the first Tuesday of each month, beginning November, 3rd through April. Address is 10745 N. Avondale Loop, Hayden Lake 83835.
Time:  7 PM

October Equipment Demonstration:

This year the Panhandle Nordic Club will be offering help to new and present members who are interested in purchasing cross country ski equipment for the first time or wanting to upgrade. The plan will be to meet with Robin, owner of Fitness Fanatics in the Spokane Valley on Wed, Oct. 28 at 6:00 pm. Robin will provide information for cross country ski equipment selection that would be appropriate for their size, weight and ski level.

Fitness Fanatics will be offering some in store discounts (wax, clothing, etc.) for those attending the Wednesday session.

Also, Robin will be available at the Spokane Ski Swap on Oct. 31st at the Spokane Fair Grounds.

Fitness Fanatics ski and snow shoe swap is the weekend of November 7 and 8. Their address is 12425 E Trent, Spokane Valley, WA 99216. Take Pines exit off I-90 and head north. Turn right on Trent and Fitness Fanatics is on the left.

Contact Jim or Dwight at to sign-up and/or more information. If interested in carpooling on the 28th include that in the email.

November’s Meeting Topic will be Exploring Ski Areas in the Region

Geoff will put together a slide show and this will include the more popular areas and those out of the way places that the club has traveled to. Also, this will include a general overview of club activities and upcoming events.

Bring your check book to purchase your park n ski pass ($25) which is needed to use facilities at 4th of July Pass Recreation Area and join the club for a very reasonable price of $15.

See You Soon,
Jim McMillen
