President’s Message

Well Christmas is over for another season. That spandex ski attire won’t look pretty unless a few pounds are shed. That’s why layering is so important. I saw an item (undergarment) on the shopping channel that smoothes out those bulges and folds. And I thought corsets had been outlawed. Fashion does all seem to circulate again.

Speaking of poor circulation we will be toning up at the next meeting with Yoga to aide our snow shoeing and skiing this season. Chris Lovejoy and Dwight Dansereau from Life Center Therapies will be our featured speakers. This will be an experiential session. You don’t have to bring tutus guys, just your favorite lounging pajamas or sweats-comfortable and loose clothing. Also a blanket would be useful for stretching while on the floor. Come learn about the downward facing dog, the plough and warrior poses. We will have spotters for those who tip over easily or are unable to get up from the floor. To be totally serious, not my forte, yoga is a great way to increase flexibility, strength and endurance. So come join the fun. We’ll keep the lights low for those shy persons.

Didn’t Jeremy Cope from Fitness Fanatics do a great job with the show shoe and clothing demonstration!

I feel we have all failed to do our snow dance and winter affirmations. Could there be some snowbirds that have infiltrated our group and should have headed to Arizona this winter? If so, we must find them and throw snowballs at them, if only we could. See you at our next meeting, January 4th…..Jim

Free Ski Day
Saturday, January 8 is free ski day at local state parks and at 4th of July. Several have signed up to spread the good news regarding the Nordic club. We plan to have refreshments available, club brochures and park n ski permits to purchase. Also we plan to offer ski lessons.

Best Hand Fun Ski
In years past, I, your beloved president have begged, guilt-tripped, invoked the spirit of Mother Theresa and exonerated past ski club members who have selfishly donated their time for our only club fundraiser. I have matured and don’t choose to do that this time around. You know what’s needed-prizes, prizes and more prizes. The goal is to have a prize for everyone who participates. That means if everyone at last club meeting brought two to three items we would be ready to go. Uh-oh, I’m preaching again. There is one way to stop the tirade. Have your prizes by the February 1 club meeting for the committee to organize. The Best Hand Fun Ski will be on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 4th of July regardless of weather and conditions. You will have a warm, cozy feeling for participation or at least get a prize at the event.

News Flash
Van and Glenn have been researching grooming possibilities and are looking into purchasing a Tiddtech tenderizer and track setter. That’s a mouth full. It will help to rejuvenate (fluff) the snow and set tracks all at the same time. The price was right and purchase request has been submitted to the State. The money is provided by the State of Idaho which comes from our Park n’ Ski parking stickers. Need more be said? Van had asked Santa for this one. Also for a few thousand more we can get an attachment that turns mud into fresh snow. Who needs to do a snow dance?

Do You Need A Place Stop and Pause?
4th of July now has two more options available for contemplation and meditation. Fred, ranger at Fernan and Van were very resourceful and made two benches out of a fallen tree near the elderberry bush on Elderberry Trail (formerly Out n’ Back).

A small but resourceful group of nonspandex guys (Geoff, Van, Fred, Don) installed the new outhouse near the picnic shelter. It’s ready to go. Sorry the seat is not heated.

Trips, Trips, Trips
Roberta and Ronn Rich are planning a trip to Winthrop, Washington the weekend of January 28-31. Contact them for more details at the January ski club meeting or call 762-3434.

Day Trips
This Sunday (Jan. 2nd) ski trip to Farragut has been changed to ice skating, Unless there are major amounts of snow-one should never loose faith---a skating party is planned at the rink off of Seltice (on the north side between Northwest and Atlas, next to I-90). $4:00 for adults and skate rentals is $2:00). Time is 1:30 to 3:30. Call Jackie (664-4852) or Jim (667-0222) for information.

Last Call
Panhandle Nordic Club dues need to be paid by the Jan. 4 meeting to stay on the mailing list and to receive the newsletter and receive special privileges. We’ll think of something. Actually this helps support the club and keeps you informed of club events. In the past we have had special offers for members for discounted Sea Kayak Adventure trips. And the summer hike schedule is part of the deal. Plus the price is right!
